Almost me...

                                            Os olhos do pássaro preto (The blackbird's eyes )

Hoje de manhã o pássaro preto olhou-me nos olhos

(In the morning the blackbird looked me right in the eyes)

Querendo dizer alguma coisa que não entendi.

(whishing to tell me something I didn't understand)

(Seu bico forte procurava comida no tronco seco)

(its strongy beak looked for some feed in the dry trunk)

E ele parecia feliz.

(it seemed happy)

Vi depois uma senhora e seu cachorrinho

( I saw later an old lady and her pet dog)

Que perscrutava em arbustos e flores

(which scrutinized the bush shrubs and flowers )

A identidade de algum semelhante.

(the sameness identity of some fellow alike)

Pareciam felizes.

(they seemed happy)

Mais à frente homens cinzentos e importantes

(straight ahead in the forefront ashy men so important)

Corriam em busca de saúde, não se importando comigo.

(ran seeking for health, worring not about me)

É o único momento do dia em que convivem consigo mesmos.

( it's the only moment in all day they live together to themselves)

Talvez por isso estejam tão carrancudos!...

(maybe for this they are so cranky! ... )

Voltei ao pássaro preto que alheio a isso tudo

( I turned back to the blackbird which distant of all these things)

Procurava por comida.

(searched feed)

Quando tentei me aproximar

( when I tryed to come near)

Alçou vôo

(it raised a flight)

Da árvore continuou me olhando

( from the tree ik kept looking me at )

Talvez esperando que eu fosse embora.

( maybe waiting me going away)

Mas na realidade não se importava comigo

(but actually it worried not about me)

Queria apenas ficar em paz.

(it just wanted to be in peace [to be alone] )

Olhou-me nos olhos, parecendo sorrir,

(looked into my eyes and seemed to smile,)

Parecendo pedir: Vá!

(looking like saying: Go!)

Entendi mais esse pássaro preto

(I understood more this blackbird )

Do que aos homens cinzentos.

(than the ashy men)

Segui meu caminho tendo a certeza

(I kept on my way with the sureness)

De que pertencer ao mundo dos homens

( that to belong to the men's world)

É quase não fazer parte da natureza.

(is almost to be not part of the nature)

É quase não saber ser feliz.

(is almost to know not to be happy)

E que aquele pássaro preto,

(and that blackbird, )

Na ponta do galho da árvore,

( on the tip of that branch of the tree)

Era parte de mim

(was a part of me)

Ou quase eu.

(or almost me. [or almost all of me] )
